Under this plan, the government will procure NAG missiles, warships, intelligence and surveillance systems, and other combat equipment.

This marks the second major weapons procurement decision after Operation Sindhur. Earlier, on August 5, the DAC had cleared projects worth Rs 67,000 crore.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the newly approved proposals include procurement of ammunition for Landing Platform Docks, 30mm guns, light torpedoes, Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track systems, and 76mm Super Rapid Guns for the Indian Navy.

The ministry said that the acquisition of Landing Platform Docks will enhance the Navy’s integrated maritime capabilities, supporting peace restoration missions, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations.

It added that the light torpedo, indigenously developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory of DRDO, is capable of engaging conventional, nuclear, and small-sized submarines.
