]]> Islamabad: Pakistan has urged India to reconsider its decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, saying millions of people in Pakistan rely on the water governed by the 1960 agreement.

India suspended the treaty on April 23, a day after the terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 Indian nationals were killed.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in response to the attack, which targeted tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.

The request from Pakistan was made in a formal letter by Syed Ali Murtaza, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, addressed to Debasree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti in India.

India has not officially responded to the letter. However, sources said the communication from Pakistan will not influence the CCS decision made on April 23 to halt the treaty in retaliation for the Pahalgam killings.
