According to case records, the incident dates back to 2017, when the body of Ekam Dhillon was found stuffed inside a suitcase in Phase 3B1, Mohali. Police had named his wife, Seerat Kaur, as the prime accused, alleging that she shot her husband dead before attempting to destroy evidence to conceal the crime.

The case drew widespread public attention after an auto-rickshaw driver told investigators that Seerat Kaur had sought his help in carrying a large suitcase downstairs shortly after the alleged murder.

After examining the evidence and hearing the case, the Mohali court held Seerat Kaur guilty of murdering her husband and sentenced her to life imprisonment. The verdict brings to a close one of the state’s most high-profile criminal trials.
