According to reports, a group of tourists from Punjab had boarded the boat for a ride in the Yamuna river. Around 2:30 pm, the boat lost balance near Keshi Ghat and overturned, throwing all passengers into the water.

There were around 30–32 people on board at the time of the incident. Panic spread as devotees struggled in the river.

Police and local administration teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation with the help of local divers. Several ambulances were deployed, and at least one person was pulled out and taken to hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the accident may have occurred after the boat collided with floating iron drums in the river. The drums were part of a temporary pontoon bridge that had been dismantled due to rising water levels, leaving them adrift.

Rescue operations were still underway till late afternoon, with several passengers feared missing.
