Responding to Grossi’s remarks in a post on X, Gharibabadi said no meeting had taken place with the IAEA chief in Switzerland despite a request from him. He also made it clear that there are currently no plans to grant the UN nuclear watchdog access to the nuclear facilities that were recently attacked or to any nuclear materials located there.

“The issues related to access to the targeted nuclear sites and nuclear materials will be reviewed and decided only within the framework of a final agreement,” Gharibabadi said.

He added that any such arrangement would depend on the other side taking “concrete and practical steps” to lift all sanctions and other punitive measures imposed on Iran.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions over Iran’s nuclear programme and efforts to revive diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington.
