    Lauds Shri Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha for perpetuating legacy of Indian classical music for 150 years

    Jalandhar News: Terming classical music as a powerful medium to connect people with divinity and cultural roots, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Saturday called upon youngsters to embrace India’s rich tradition of classical music to truly understand one of the nation’s greatest cultural treasures.

    The Governor was presiding over the 150th Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan at Shri Devi Talab Mandir here. He said that the Sammelan has played a pivotal role in keeping the flame of traditional Indian music alive for the past one and a half centuries.

    Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, Advisor Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department Deepak Bali, Chairman Harivallabh Mahasabha Shital Vij and President Poornima Beri, the Governor said he felt privileged to be part of the landmark 150th edition of this world-renowned event.

    He noted that the year holds special significance as it marks 150 years of Vande Mataram song and the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

    Highlighting the role of music in India’s freedom movement, Mr. Kataria said that patriotic compositions played a vital role in awakening mass consciousness and strengthening the struggle for independence. He described the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan as a catalyst for taking India’s rich musical and cultural heritage to every corner of the world.

    The Governor stressed that it is imperative to familiarise younger generations with such festivals, which embody the essence of India’s cultural legacy. He said it was a matter of immense pride that Jalandhar has been hosting one of the world’s oldest classical music festivals continuously for around 150 years, providing a global platform to budding artists and promoting Indian classical music.

    Appreciating the efforts of the organizing committee, Mr. Kataria said their dedication has brought international recognition to Jalandhar. He also honoured the participating artists and urged them to continue serving Indian classical music, emphasizing that connecting youth with their cultural and musical heritage is the need of the hour.

    DC orders identification of black spots to prevent road accidents

    Jalandhar News: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Tuesday directed the Police Department to prepare a detailed list of black spots across the district where frequent road accidents occur. Chairing the monthly meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, the DC said that identifying these accident-prone locations is crucial to implementing timely corrective measures and saving precious lives.

    He instructed officials from the Public Works and Transport Departments to conduct joint site visits to these black spots once the police drpqrtment submit the list. “Post-inspection, necessary structural changes and infrastructure improvements must be proposed to eliminate these hazards,” Dr. Aggarwal added.

    The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the need for thorough reporting of all fatal road accidents, including their causes, especially where such accidents happen due to engineering laps. He catagorically mentioned that strict departmental action will be initiated where road accidents was happened due to engineering lapse. “Understanding the root causes, including engineering faults if any, is essential for permanent solutions,” he said. Dr. Aggarwal also called for strict action against those making cuts on busy roads, especially at Highways for their own convenience; thereny putting others lives at risk.

    He directed that the list and inspections be completed before the committee’s next meeting. He also sought a list of traffic hotspots where frequent jams are happening in the district. In another key direction, Dr. Aggarwal asked officials to prepare a proposal for installing traffic lights at Kishangarh Chowk to streamline vehicular movement in the area. He also took stock of ongoing efforts under the Safe School Vahan policy, availability of parking at congested locations, and enforcement actions such as challaning in drunk driving cases.

    Dr. Aggarwal reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening road safety infrastructure and urged all departments to work in close coordination to reduce accident rates across the district. Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included RTO Amanpal Singh, SDMs Vivek Modi, Shubhi Angra, and representatives from Police Department, and NHAI.

    Jalandhar News: In a record-breaking yoga event held at the PAP Grounds in Jalandhar, more than 21,000 people came together under the banner of ‘CM Di Yogshala’, reflecting Punjab’s growing commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

    Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who attended as the chief guest, appreciated the overwhelming public enthusiasm for yoga. He expressed happiness at seeing thousands of people actively connecting with the government through this initiative.
    He said that ‘CM Di Yogshala’, launched two years ago under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has now expanded across the state with nearly 3,200 yoga classes being conducted daily, benefiting around one lakh people.

    Addressing the gathering, Jalandhar Central constituency in-charge Nitin Kohli delivered an emotional message. “Seeing such a large turnout, especially the children who arrived as early as 5 AM, filled my heart with gratitude. It was truly a remarkable experience,” he said.

    Kohli extended special thanks to Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh for his unwavering support in making the event a grand success. He also acknowledged the efforts of the district administration and police department officials who worked tirelessly to ensure the event was well-organised and secure.

    “I appeal to everyone to make yoga a part of their daily routine. Yoga is not limited to physical fitness—it also brings mental clarity and balance to life,” Kohli said. He shared his personal routine, saying he dedicates an hour each morning to yoga and squash and urged youth to embrace this healthy lifestyle.

    He also thanked those who played an active role in the success of the event, including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, the Municipal Commissioner, and other dignitaries.
    Prominent attendees included Jalandhar Mayor Vanit Dheer, Principal Prem Kumar, Health Secretary Kumar Rahul, Vice-Chancellor of Shri Guru Ravidas Ayurved University Dr. Sanjeev Sood, Director Rajinder Singh Rehal, and ADGP Naresh Arora.

    Meeting held to address complaints over enhancement and non-construction fees

    Jalandhar News: In a major development that could bring relief to city residents, Jalandhar Improvement Trust Chairperson Rajvinder Kaur Thiara and Central Constituency Incharge Nitin Kohli held a meeting to address longstanding grievances related to enhancement and non-construction (NCF) charges.

    On Wednesday, a delegation of residents from Surya Enclave, Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Avenue met the Trust chairperson under the leadership of Nitin Kohli. The delegation highlighted that despite having valid No Dues Certificates (NDCs) and completed property registrations, many property files still reflect pending enhancement and NCF charges. Residents said these charges were not only unjust but also placed an additional financial burden on them.

    The delegation included residents Rajan Gupta, Gulshan Agrawal, Pawan Sethia, Manish Kumar, and Rajeev Dhamija, who presented specific examples and demanded an immediate halt to what they described as unnecessary charges.

    Taking prompt action, Chairperson Rajvinder Thiara ordered a review of the relevant files and directed that all such payments be temporarily halted until further notice. She assured the delegation that a fair decision in line with the current policies of the Local Government Department would be made within a week.

    Nitin Kohli’s proactive efforts in bringing residents’ concerns to the forefront and coordinating with the Trust were widely appreciated during the meeting. His role was seen as crucial in moving the process towards a practical solution.

    Residents present at the meeting expressed gratitude to Rajvinder Thiara and Nitin Kohli, saying that the intervention not only offered financial relief but also renewed hope for greater transparency in the functioning of the Improvement Trust.

    Jalandhar News: शहर में नशा तस्करी के मुख्य हॉटस्पॉट गांव लखनपाल में पुलिस कमिश्नर धनप्रीत कौर आज लाव लश्कर के साथ अचानक पहुंच गई। उनके साथ डीसीपी इनवेस्टीगेशन मनप्रीत सिंह ढिल्लों समेत कई अधिकारी मौजूद थे। गांव लखनपाल जमशेर के पास जंडियाला के पास स्थित है और नशे का मुख्य हॉटस्पॉट है। CP धनप्रीत कौर जैसे ही वहां पहुंची तो मौके पर गांव के लोग भी आ गए।

    लोगों ने गांव में चल रहे नशा तस्करी के धंधे को लेकर पुलिस कमिश्नर से बातचीत की और उन्हें हर तरह का सहयोग देने की आश्वासन दिया। लोगों ने ये भी कहा कि जब से पंजाब सरकार ने नशे के खिलाफ मुहिम छेड़ी है, तब से गांव में नशा बिकना बंद हो गया है।

    लोगों ने कहा कि जब भी कोई तस्कर गांव में नशा बेचेगा तो वह तुरंत पुलिस को सूचित करेंगे। साथ ही उन्होंने सीपी धनप्रीत का गांव आने पर धन्यवाद भी किया और कहा कि वह पहली कमिश्नर हैं, जो उनके गांव पहुंची है।
