Vickrum Digwa, 23, was convicted of murdering Henry Nowak during a violent attack in Southampton. A court ordered Digwa to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.

According to prosecutors, Digwa stabbed Nowak multiple times during the incident, inflicting fatal injuries. Following the attack, he allegedly attempted to mislead responding police officers by claiming that the victim had racially abused him and knocked off his turban.

The court heard that when officers arrived at the scene, Digwa’s account initially led them to treat Nowak as the aggressor. The student was handcuffed before police discovered the severity of his injuries and realised he had been fatally stabbed.

During the trial, prosecutors challenged Digwa’s version of events and presented evidence that contradicted his claims. The jury ultimately found him guilty of murder.

The judge described the attack as extremely serious and imposed a life sentence, reflecting the gravity of the offence. The case has drawn significant attention in the United Kingdom, with authorities emphasising that false allegations can hinder emergency responses and complicate criminal investigations.

Henry Nowak’s family paid tribute to the teenager following the verdict, while police welcomed the conviction and thanked witnesses who assisted the investigation.
