Mahal, who had recently led the Akali Dal’s campaign in the municipal council elections and was credited with helping the party secure a major victory over Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa in Qadian, announced his decision to switch allegiance to the ruling AAP.

Although no official statement has been issued regarding Mahal’s future role in the party, political observers believe AAP could utilise his local influence to strengthen its position in the Qadian Assembly constituency and challenge Bajwa’s political hold.
