The state government said that three out of the six generating units at the Dehar Power House remained non-functional between May and September 2025, resulting in a sharp decline in daily power generation capacity.

According to Punjab, the reduced power generation caused financial losses of around Rs 227 crore to the partner states. The government also said that failures in the operation of the BSL project and inadequate maintenance posed a potential threat to water security for all partner states.

In this regard, the Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Punjab, has written to the Chairman of BBMB and the Union Ministry of Power, seeking an independent and time-bound audit of the BSL project and the functioning of the Dehar Power House. The audit has been sought from the filling season of 2023 onwards.
