New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its crackdown in the illegal mining and money laundering case by conducting raids at multiple locations in Punjab’s Nangal subdivision of Rupnagar district over the past two days.

In a significant development, the central agency reportedly inspected properties that had already been attached by the ED in connection with the same investigation.

According to sources, ED teams visited attached properties in Majari and Bhallan villages of the Nangal area following allegations that unidentified persons had resumed large-scale illegal mining on the seized land.

The raids are understood to be part of the ED’s ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) into an alleged illegal mining syndicate operating in the region.

Earlier, the Nangal Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) had also lodged a police complaint against unidentified persons accused of carrying out illegal mining on the ED-attached properties.

Although the ED has not issued an official statement on the latest action, sources said investigation teams inspected the sites, examined records and carried out a physical verification of the land.

The latest development comes months after the ED, on October 17, 2025, attached nearly 250 kanals of land spread across Nangal and Nurpur Bedi in Rupnagar district, Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur, and Machhiwara in Ludhiana. The agency had alleged that the properties were acquired using proceeds generated from illegal mining activities.
