The Managing Directors of Markfed and Milkfed have been assigned to conduct a fact-finding inquiry into the case and submit an action-taken report without delay. The government has also issued chargesheets to seven senior officials and transferred one officer in connection with the alleged irregularities.

The state government has referred the role of New Delhi-based Manisha Trading Company and A.M. Chemical, Sonipat to the Principal Commissioners of CGST in New Delhi and Panchkula for detailed investigation and necessary action.

Milkfed has issued major penalty chargesheets to the General Manager of the Khanna Cattle Feed Plant, the Manager (AH), the Quality In-charge, the Deputy Manager (Purchase and Stores)/F&A In-charge and a Senior Assistant. Markfed has served a show-cause notice on its Chief Manager, while its General Manager, Senior Accounts Officer and Senior Assistant (Commercial) have also been chargesheeted for major penalties. The Senior Assistant (Commercial) has additionally been transferred in the administrative interest.

The Taxation Department has also inspected the business premises of Indo Organic, Gidderbaha, and sought financial records from the firm as part of the investigation.

According to the government, the material supplied was allegedly neem-coated subsidised urea instead of the technical-grade urea declared in GST documents. The discrepancy has raised suspicion of misdeclaration, wrongful input tax credit claims and misuse of government-subsidised fertiliser.

The Chief Minister has directed the Cooperation Department to initiate the process of making Markfed the nodal agency for the procurement and supply of technical-grade urea in Punjab. The government alleged that private companies had supplied subsidised agricultural urea, priced at around ₹5.91 per kg, by falsely labelling it as technical-grade urea worth nearly ₹61 per kg to cooperative industries.
