A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and N.V. Ramana also issued notice on Majithia’s plea challenging the December 4 order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had rejected his bail application. Majithia is facing proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in a case related to alleged disproportionate assets amounting to over Rs 540 crore.

Earlier, Majithia had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking bail, but relief was denied. Following the High Court’s decision, he approached the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of his bail plea.

The apex court has listed the matter for further hearing on January 19 next year. The case will be taken up after the Punjab government submits its reply.
