The meeting, being held under the leadership of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, has drawn representatives from a large number of Sikh organisations. A joint resolution is expected after deliberations on the directives earlier issued by the five Sikh high priests of Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

According to the SGPC, views expressed by participating organisations will form the basis of a common panthic stand on the issue.

Earlier, the five Sikh high priests had declared Bhagwant Mann as “Guru Dokhi” and “Panth Virodhi” in connection with the controversial video and had appealed to the Sikh community not to extend any form of support to him. The SGPC has also displayed flex boards carrying the Akal Takht’s directives at various gurdwaras.

The controversy intensified on Saturday when some Sikh youths at Sri Harmandir Sahib requested devotees visiting under the Punjab government’s Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme to remove identity cards carrying the Chief Minister’s photograph before entering the shrine.

According to the SGPC, the disputed videos were examined by two independent forensic laboratories. It has claimed that the forensic reports found no evidence of tampering or AI-generated deepfake manipulation, following which the Akal Takht initiated religious action in the matter.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, however, has rejected the allegations, maintaining that the videos are fabricated and that the person seen in them is not him. The issue continues to fuel political as well as religious debate across Punjab.
