According to eyewitnesses, the family was travelling through the flooded road when they failed to notice the uncovered drain due to stagnant dirty water accumulated on the street. Within seconds, the scooter along with the family, including a small child, plunged into the sewer.

Locals present at the spot immediately rushed to help and managed to rescue all family members safely. With the assistance of passersby, the scooter was also pulled out, preventing what could have turned into a fatal accident.

The incident triggered anger among residents, who blamed the administration for poor civic management. Locals alleged that wastewater from nearby dairies regularly floods the roads in the area, making potholes and open drains impossible to spot.

Residents claimed that similar accidents occur frequently due to severe waterlogging and lack of proper maintenance.

The issue soon took a political turn after Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu shared the viral video on X and criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

In his post, Bittu alleged that while advertisements portray a “Rangla Punjab”, the ground reality reflects a “ruined Punjab”. He termed the Tajpur Road incident a “slap on the face” of the government’s development claims and questioned whether this was the “change” promised by the state government, where ordinary citizens fear for their lives even while travelling on roads.
