Speaking to reporters in Ropar, Balbir Singh said the AAP government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have zero tolerance for corruption, but the law should be applied equally. “In the Chaturvedi case, they are trying to be chaturai (clever). Such cases should not be used to force people to join the BJP,” he said.

On questions regarding corruption in the Punjab police, he added that corruption is not limited to Punjab and also occurs in other BJP-ruled states. He cited allegations of Rs 62,000 crore corruption in Maharashtra, which, according to him, disappeared once the leaders accused joined the BJP.

Balbir Singh further said the law must be applied equally, citing recent drug seizures at Gujarat ports, where the state government was not held accountable.

In an official letter, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, said the Punjab Land Policy introduced on May 14, 2025, along with related amendments, has been scrapped. All Letters of Intent (LOI), registrations and other work carried out under the policy stand cancelled.

Farmers across Punjab had been protesting against the policy, alleging that it was a means for the government to seize their land.

The matter had also reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which, a few days ago, imposed a four-week stay on its implementation. The court is scheduled to hear the case on September 10.

Magan died by suicide on June 18 by hanging himself. In a video recorded before his death, Magan alleged that his wife Divya and her policeman boyfriend were harassing him. He claimed that Divya was pressuring him to kill his father and sell ancestral land, stating that her boyfriend needed money for a promotion.

A video also surfaced showing Divya dancing obscenely, which, according to Magan’s family, was sent to him before his death. The family has demanded strict action against both Divya and Deepak, holding them responsible for Magan’s suicide.
