Ganguly silent on India’s boycott of Pakistan in WCL semi-final

New Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly declined to comment on India’s decision to boycott Pakistan in the semi-finals of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), held on Thursday.

India pulled out of the high-stakes clash, citing the country’s policy against bilateral sporting ties with Pakistan in light of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

While Ganguly chose not to weigh in on the political aspect of the boycott, he spoke candidly about spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s exclusion from the playing XI during the recent five-match Test series against England.

Ganguly said Kuldeep should have featured in the first three Tests, adding, “It is not easy to take 20 wickets in a Test match without a quality spinner.”

India opted for a bowling attack featuring three pacers and two spin all-rounders in the Oval Test, leaving Kuldeep out once again. Although he went wicketless in his only Test in England back in 2018, the left-arm wrist-spinner has a solid record against England, claiming 21 wickets in six matches at an average of 22.28, with best figures of 5/72.
