New Delhi: Congress MP Mohammad Javed and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday moved the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, alleging that it violates fundamental rights and undermines the religious autonomy of the Muslim community.<\/p>\n
Javed, who represents Kishanganj in Bihar and was part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Bill, argued that the legislation imposes \u201carbitrary restrictions\u201d on waqf properties and their management. Owaisi\u2019s petition was filed through advocate Lazafir Ahmed.<\/p>\n
Both petitions contend that the bill infringes upon Articles 14, 15, and 26 of the Constitution, which relate to equality before law, prohibition of discrimination, and the right to manage religious affairs, respectively.<\/p>\n
The controversial bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Friday with 128 members voting in favour and 95 against. Earlier, the Lok Sabha had cleared it on April 3, with 288 votes in support and 232 opposing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
