New Delhi: The Government of India is set to adopt a tough stand to protect its agriculture sector during the upcoming high-level Indo-US trade talks.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a consensus is expected on reducing tariffs in non-farm sectors such as automobiles and non-generic pharmaceuticals, official sources said.<\/p>\n
The discussions will be led by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and India\u2019s Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra.<\/p>\n
The trio will engage with their American counterparts on key trade issues, including the 26% tax imposed by the US on Indian goods and the possibility of a bilateral trade agreement (BTA).<\/p>\n
Sources said India is aiming for a mutually beneficial agreement, prioritizing national interests while addressing key American concerns. India is also prepared to increase imports of oil, gas, machinery, and medical equipment from the US.<\/p>\n
Officials noted that India was the only country US negotiators visited for talks following the tariff hike announced by former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
