Toronto: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in his first press conference since winning the election, said his government would take tough decisions to revive the country\u2019s struggling economy.<\/p>\n
He said that making major economic changes is the need of the hour and added that lessons had been learned from the failures of past governments.<\/p>\n
Carney, a former governor of the central banks of both Canada and Britain, admitted that economic reforms would not be easy but expressed confidence in his government’s ability to deliver.<\/p>\n
“We will do whatever it takes to get the economy back on track,” he said.<\/p>\n
Addressing concerns about his minority government, Carney ruled out any partnership with the New Democratic Party (NDP). He clarified that while his party fell short of a majority in Parliament, it had received a majority of votes and would govern independently.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister also announced that he will travel to Washington on May 5 and hold talks with US President Donald Trump on May 6. The meeting will focus on addressing the negative impact of tariff barriers on bilateral trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
