{"id":42860,"date":"2025-05-13T16:40:20","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T16:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/?p=42860"},"modified":"2025-05-13T16:40:20","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T16:40:20","slug":"major-action-against-two-unauthorized-de-addiction-centers-in-shahkot-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/punjab\/major-action-against-two-unauthorized-de-addiction-centers-in-shahkot-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Action against Two Unauthorized De-addiction Centers in Shahkot Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Jalandhar News:<\/span> Under the Punjab government\u2019s ongoing &#8216;Yudh Nashian Virudh&#8217; campaign, another major operation was carried out in Jalandhar today jointly by the Civil and Police administration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Led by\u00a0Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal\u00a0and\u00a0SSP Harvinder Singh Virk, teams from the civil administration and district rural police raided two unauthorized de-addiction centers operating in the\u00a0Shahkot area\u00a0and\u00a0rescued 76 individuals. Acting on the directions of the DC and SSP, joint teams from the\u00a0civil, police, and health departments\u00a0inspected an unauthorized de-addiction center being run by the\u00a0Baba Deep Singh Welfare Society\u00a0in village\u00a0Dhandwal (under Shahkot police station), where\u00a047 individuals\u00a0were rescued. A case has been registered against the property owner and members of the society, and investigations have begun.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In another operation, at the\u00a0Turning Point De-addiction Center\u00a0in\u00a0village Bajwa Kalan,\u00a029 individuals\u00a0were rescued and a case was registered at Shahkot police station, followed by further investigation. Similarly, other de-addiction centers in and around Shahkot city were inspected and verified.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal shared that police investigations revealed that individuals at these illegal centers were kept in captivity, subjected to physical abuse, and some were forcibly confined for over\u00a0seven months. He emphasized that cases have been filed against the property owners and society members, and investigations are underway. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the Punjab government&#8217;s\u00a0zero-tolerance policy\u00a0toward drugs, stating that the\u00a0Jalandhar administration\u00a0is fully committed to eradicating drug abuse from the district.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>He said that along with strict action against illegal de-addiction centers, attention is also being given to the rehabilitation of drug-dependent individuals. He assured that continuous surveillance will be conducted to shut down unauthorized de-addiction centers in the district. Dr. Aggarwal also mentioned that earlier under the same campaign, the district administration took action against illegal de-addiction centers in\u00a0Jamsher and Samrai, rescuing\u00a034 and 103 individuals, respectively.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>He urged residents to use the district\u2019s\u00a0De-addiction Helpline Number: 0181-2911969\u00a0for assistance or information. Additionally, people can share any drug-related activities with the Punjab government via\u00a0WhatsApp Helpline: 9779-100-200. He assured that the identity of informants would be kept\u00a0confidential.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>SSP\u00a0Harvinder Singh Virk\u00a0warned that\u00a0strict legal action\u00a0will be taken against anyone or any organization running unauthorized de-addiction centers. He stated that such centers not only violate the law but also endanger the lives of patients.
