New Delhi: At an all-party meeting convened by the government ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Sunday, the Opposition raised concerns over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, law and order in Odisha, and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The government, meanwhile, sought the cooperation of opposition parties for the smooth functioning of the House during the session.<\/p>\n
The meeting was chaired by BJP president J.P. Nadda and attended by Union Minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha J.P. Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal. Leaders from various political parties, including Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Jairam Ramesh, NCP\u2019s Supriya Sule, DMK\u2019s T R Baalu, and RPI-A leader and Union minister Ramdas Athawale, were present.<\/p>\n
After the meeting, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said that the Opposition would seek answers from the government on important issues during the session and expected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the House. \u201cThe government will have to speak on what happened in Pahalgam. Everyone should unite to support the army, and the PM should respond to statements coming from America that raise questions on the dignity of our forces,\u201d Gogoi said.<\/p>\n
He also criticised the Election Commission, saying it was not engaging with different parties on voting-related concerns, and demanded special discussions on defence and foreign affairs, particularly on two-front challenges.
