Panipat: A 22-year-old youth from Panipat was shot in Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Kairana district on Saturday while transporting a tractor trolley. The victim, Rohit, was on his way to Mamaur village, located near the Haryana-UP border, when bike-borne masked assailants surrounded him and opened fire. Rohit, a resident of Kurad village, was headed to harvest paddy on his 50 bighas of farmland. \u201cMy father was murdered a month ago over this land. Now they\u2019ve targeted me,\u201d Rohit told his family.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred even though a gunman from Sanauli police station had been assigned to protect him. However, the gunman was reportedly riding about 50 metres ahead at the time of the attack. By the time he returned, the attackers had escaped.<\/p>\n
