Washington: Indian-American businessman and outspoken anti-Khalistan ideologue Sukhi Chahal has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in California. His close friend, Jaspal Singh, said Chahal died suddenly after having dinner at an acquaintance’s house on July 31.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis health deteriorated after dinner and he died on the spot,\u201d Jaspal said on Saturday. He added that Chahal was completely healthy prior to the incident, and his sudden death has raised serious questions.<\/p>\n
Chahal, the founder and CEO of The Khalsa Today, was a vocal critic of Khalistani elements and had opposed the upcoming Khalistan referendum scheduled to be held in Washington DC on August 17.<\/p>\n
According to his acquaintance Buta Singh Kaler, Chahal had been receiving threats from Khalistani supporters for his stance, but he refused to back down. His death has sent shockwaves through the pro-India community in the United States.<\/p>\n
The police have launched an investigation, and a postmortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death.<\/p>\n
Chahal, who consistently advised Indian immigrants to obey U.S. laws and avoid criminal activities, had recently posted on his X account, \u201cIt is necessary to follow the law in America. Visa can be revoked if you commit a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n
Born in Punjab\u2019s Mansa district, Chahal moved to the U.S. in 1992. He studied computer engineering at Guru Nanak Engineering College in Ludhiana from 1988 to 1992 and later pursued specialized courses in computers and management at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley.<\/p>\n
