New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that India would never compromise on the interests of its farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers, even if it came at a personal cost.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor us, the interest of farmers is the topmost priority. India will never compromise with the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I believe that, personally, I will have to pay the price for it, and I am ready for it,\u201d PM Modi said.<\/p>\n
He was addressing a three-day Global Conference held to mark the birth centenary of renowned agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan. Modi\u2019s remarks come in the wake of the United States announcing a hike in tariffs on Indian imports \u2014 including agricultural products \u2014 by up to 50 per cent.<\/p>\n
