New Delhi: The Congress on Monday hit back at Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, saying the Election Commission should first file an affidavit in the Supreme Court declaring its electoral roll clean, after which the party will also submit an affidavit highlighting irregularities in the list.<\/p>\n
The opposition alleged that Kumar appeared like a \u201cBJP spokesperson\u201d during his press conference in New Delhi. Earlier, the CEC had asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to file a signed affidavit within seven days to substantiate his allegations of vote theft, failing which the claims would be treated as baseless.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe (Gyanesh Kumar) threatened us to give an affidavit. He may be scared of threats, but we are not. They don\u2019t trust their own data,\u201d Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar said.<\/p>\n
He further alleged that the BJP wanted to \u201csteal votes\u201d and \u201csteal the Constitution\u201d. Kumar added that despite repeated requests, the EC refused to provide the voter list in a machine-readable format.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe EC kept saying there is no problem, but now they admit issues exist. First give an affidavit in the Supreme Court that your electoral roll is clean, then we will give an affidavit pointing out irregularities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
