Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will take systematic policy measures to rehabilitate flood-affected people in Punjab. A dedicated committee will be formed to assess the needs of the victims and outline a concrete action plan, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said today while speaking to the media at the SGPC office.<\/p>\n
Advocate Dhami said the floods have caused extensive damage across Punjab, which cannot be fully compensated. The SGPC has decided to contribute Rs 2 crore from its employees for relief work, of which Rs 1 crore has already been disbursed today. The collected funds will be used to support the rehabilitation of affected families.<\/p>\n
He criticized the government for failing to release water from dams in time, saying this exacerbated the devastation in Punjab. \u201cMany areas are in a critical condition, severely affecting daily life. Instead of providing immediate relief, the government is only creating a show on social media,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Highlighting SGPC\u2019s ongoing relief efforts, Advocate Dhami said the committee has been assisting victims from day one, creating a widespread support movement with significant contributions from the people of Punjab. He also lauded the SGPC Akali Dal for their flood relief initiatives.<\/p>\n
To prevent the spread of diseases in waterlogged areas, SGPC has deployed medical teams from Sri Guru Ramdas Medical University. Spraying machines have been sent to control mosquitoes, and veterinary doctors are attending to livestock. Advocate Dhami urged the government to compensate Rs 50,000 per acre for damaged crops and cover losses to livestock and property.<\/p>\n
He thanked organizations providing relief in affected areas and appealed for essential supplies based on local needs, including dry milk and mosquito nets for children. He also encouraged SGPC employees to contribute Rs 1 lakh each from their discretionary quota and urged global Sikh communities to support the relief efforts.<\/p>\n
During the event, SGPC members and officials contributed to flood relief work under Advocate Dhami\u2019s guidance. Notable contributions included Rs 3 lakh from Balwant Singh (USA), Rs 1 lakh from SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mann, Rs 3 lakh from family members of member Rajinder Singh Mehta, and various donations from other SGPC members and journalists.<\/p>\n
