Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attended the cabinet meeting virtually from a private hospital in Mohali on Sunday, where a series of relief measures for flood-affected regions were approved.<\/p>\n
The cabinet decided to provide compensation of \u20b920,000 per acre to farmers whose crops were damaged in the floods. The government has also approved the campaign \u201cJis khet da mitti, oh khet da balu\u201d (Whose field is its sand), allowing farmers to remove silt and sand from their fields and sell it further.<\/p>\n
Mann said families of those who lost their lives in the floods would receive \u20b94 lakh each as compensation. A survey will also be conducted to identify houses that collapsed, with assurance of adequate financial assistance for affected families.<\/p>\n
To provide further relief, farmers in flood-hit areas have been granted an additional six months to repay loans taken from cooperative banks. During this period, no installments will be required. Compensation will also be given for loss of cattle and other livestock.<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister announced a special vaccination drive to prevent the outbreak of diseases in affected villages. Fogging machines will be supplied to around 1,700 villages, while medical teams will be deployed to treat residents. A cleanliness campaign will also be launched in flood-ravaged areas.<\/p>\n
Mann added that a survey will be carried out to assess damage to power department infrastructure, including transformers, and a future restoration plan will be prepared.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
