New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the United States imposed an annual fee of USD 100,000 on H-1B visas for highly skilled workers. The party accused him of being a \u201cweak\u201d leader and questioned his silence on the issue, which it said would damage the prospects of Indian professionals.<\/p>\n
Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said on X, \u201cWith the recent decision on H-1B visas, the US government has hurt the future of India\u2019s best and brightest people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Recalling the response of former prime minister Manmohan Singh in a diplomatic row involving an Indian Foreign Service officer, Gogoi added, \u201cI still remember the boldness of former PM Manmohan Singh when one IFS lady diplomat was insulted in the US. Now PM Modi\u2019s preference for strategic silence and loud optics has become a liability for the national interest of India and her citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
