In an intelligence-led operation amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a major narcotics and arms smuggling network with the arrest of its six operatives and recovered 4.03 Kg Heroin and 2 sophisticated pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Those arrested have been identified as Jagir Singh alias Sucha (35) of village Mulla Rahima Utar in Ferozepur, Angrej Singh (20) of village Chah Boharia in Ferozepur, Gurpreet Singh (30) of Mastgarh in Tarn Taran, Palwinder Singh (35) of Mastgarh in Tarn Taran, Lakhwinder Singh alias Lucky (24) of Ghinniwala Canal Colony in Ferozepur and Baljinder Singh (42) of Naurang Ke Sial Canal Colony in Ferozepur. The recovered pistols include one 9MM Glock and one .30 bore pistol.<\/p>\n

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed the arrested accused persons were in contact with Pakistan-based handler Shah through social media platforms. They were receiving heroin and weapons consignments in Khemkaran and Ferozepur sectors, being pushed in by Pak-smugglers using drones for supply in the Amritsar area, he said.<\/p>\n

\n

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in this case to expose the full nexus.<\/p>\n

\n

Sharing operation details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that in an intelligence led operation, suspects Jagir and Angrej\u2014 who are cousins and run a Dhabha in Ferozepur\u2014 were initially arrested with 220gm heroin and one Glock pistol. In further investigation and disclosures of both the arrested persons, accused Gurpreet, Palwinder, Lakhwinder and Baljinder were nominated and arrested, he said.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The CP said that on disclosure of Jagir, Palwinder and Gurpreet, a chunk of 2.813 kg heroin was recovered along with a .30 bore pistol. Further interrogation of arrested accused Lakhwinder and Baljinder led to the recovery of an additional chunk of 1kg heroin, taking the total recovery to 4.03 kg. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days, he said.<\/p>\n
