Many attendees fainted, while others fell unconscious and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Witnesses said the situation worsened when people struggled to breathe in the packed gathering.<\/p>\n<p>Vijay, who was addressing the rally, had to pause his speech as the situation deteriorated. The heavy turnout and lack of space reportedly triggered the deadly stampede.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy. \u201cDeeply pained by the unfortunate incident that took place during a political rally in Karur. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
