Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration has approved revised bylaws governing pets and dogs in the city. Under the new rules, households with less than five marlas will be allowed to keep only one dog.<\/p>\n
Six breeds of dogs considered aggressive have been banned. The bylaws also include provisions from the Supreme Court\u2019s August orders on stray dog management. Stray dogs will be allowed to be fed only at designated spots.<\/p>\n
Pet owners will face a fine of \u20b910,000 if their dogs are found defecating in public places. The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh will treat such incidents as littering under solid waste management rules.<\/p>\n
Additionally, a fine of \u20b9500 will be imposed for other violations of dog regulations. For the first time, penalty charges for these violations will also be added to water and property tax bills.<\/p>\n
The draft bylaws were circulated by the Municipal Corporation in May after inviting public objections and suggestions, and were approved by the General House before being cleared by the Administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
