The \u2018Zero Electricity Bill\u2019 guarantee implemented by the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann has proven to be not just an election promise, but a revolutionary step. This is the guarantee that has truly illuminated the homes of lakhs of families in the state. Leaving behind the hollow promises of previous governments and the era of expensive electricity, the current government has proven that if policy and intention are clear, providing direct relief to the public is not impossible.<\/p>\n

The biggest proof of this scheme\u2019s success is that today **90 percent (90%)** of Punjab\u2019s families are benefiting from the \u2018Zero Electricity Bill\u2019. This is not a small figure, but direct relief given to a vast population of the state. In just one billing cycle of **August-September 2025**, the electricity bills of **7,387,460** families came to zero. This unprecedented achievement shows that this welfare scheme of the government is reaching every section of society, giving people direct savings of \u20b91500 to \u20b92000 every month, which they are using for their children\u2019s education and other family needs.<\/p>\n

The figures tell the story of this historic success themselves. Since this scheme was implemented in July 2022 until October 31, 2025, the Punjab government has issued a total of **113,943,344** (that is, approximately **11.40 crore**) \u2018Zero Electricity Bills\u2019. Along with this, a total of **134,632,343** (more than 13.46 crore) consumers have benefited from subsidized electricity. This huge number is a sharp blow to the failures of previous governments, who completely failed to provide such basic relief to the public for decades.<\/p>\n

Today, when 90% of Punjabis are getting zero bills, the question naturally arises – why couldn\u2019t previous governments do this? The truth is that they had neither the political will nor the vision to make public-friendly policies. For them, the public was just a \u2018vote bank\u2019, who were given lollipops during elections. Previous governments, busy looting Punjab\u2019s treasury and serving their personal interests, never seriously tried to reduce the burden of common people\u2019s electricity bills. Their priority was not Punjab, but pleasing their political masters.<\/p>\n

This step of the current government is an important pillar of the \u2018Roshaan Punjab\u2019 mission. This mission is not limited to just illuminating homes, but is also strengthening Punjab\u2019s backbone, that is, the \u2018Annadata\u2019 (food provider). The government is ensuring that **13.50 lakh (thirteen and a half lakh)** farmers of Punjab continue to get free electricity for farming. This step reduces farmers\u2019 input costs, helps increase their income, and ensures the country\u2019s food security by strengthening Punjab\u2019s agriculture sector. This is exactly opposite to the anti-farmer attitude of previous governments.<\/p>\n

This is not a one-time relief, but the result of a strong policy of the government, which is reaching people consistently every year. Looking at the figures: In **financial year 2023-24**, a total of **35,959,088** (approximately 3.60 crore) \u2018Zero Bills\u2019 were issued. In **financial year 2024-25** also this continued and **34,577,832** (approximately 3.46 crore) \u2018Zero Bills\u2019 were given. This continuity proves that the government not only has vision, but also has strong financial management to implement it on the ground.<\/p>\n

This scheme is not just \u2018free\u2019, but a \u2018smart\u2019 and well-thought-out policy. On consumption up to 600 units, the bill comes \u201czero\u201d, which means consumers don\u2019t have to pay not only for the electricity price, but also for fixed charges, meter rent or any other tax. Besides, there is also a \u201csafety net\u201d for weaker sections of society (SC\/BC\/BPL) – if their consumption exceeds 600 units, they only have to pay for the extra units. This shows that the government has taken care of every aspect.<\/p>\n

These figures – **11.40 crore \u2018Zero Bills\u2019**, **90% homes getting relief**, **73.87 lakh families** and **13.50 lakh farmers** – make it clear that a new era of governance has begun in Punjab. This is the \u2018Punjab Model\u2019, which is based not on hollow promises, but on solid \u2018guarantees\u2019.
