Jammu: Nine people were killed and 32 others injured in a blast at the Nowgam police station on the outskirts of Srinagar late on Friday night, officials said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The explosives that triggered the blast were recovered from a terror module linked to the recent Red Fort attack and were being kept inside the police station. The material had been seized by Jammu and Kashmir Police from Faridabad in Haryana, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Sources said personnel of the State Investigation Agency (SIA) were present inside the building when the explosion occurred. The SIA had taken over the probe into the case.<\/p>\n
Several vehicles in and around the premises caught fire as the blast ripped through the police station. Residents reported that the sound of the explosion was heard several kilometres away.<\/p>\n
Addressing a brief press conference in Srinagar, the Director General of Police said nine people had died and 32 were injured. \u201cThere was a sudden explosion. The cause of this unfortunate incident is being investigated,\u201d he said.
