Patiala: The Punjab Roadways, Panbus, and PRTC Contract Workers Union have postponed the planned strike after the government extended the tender date for the kilometer scheme, addressing the union\u2019s main demand. Union leader Shamsher Singh said the government has also issued an official letter agreeing to other demands.<\/p>\n
A meeting between the union and officials was held in Patiala. Earlier, employees had staged protests in Ludhiana and Amritsar. In Ludhiana, workers blocked roads from 12 noon to 2 pm, causing disruption as buses on many routes remained off the roads.<\/p>\n
The Punjab government had previously attempted to open the kilometer scheme tenders twice. On one occasion, tenders were scheduled just before Raksha Bandhan, but PRTC buses came to a halt across the state at 12 noon, leaving passengers stranded at bus stands. Following the protests, the government extended the tender opening date.<\/p>\n
