New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called on citizens to help completely free the country from the \u201cmentality of slavery\u201d within the next ten years, saying India is now moving ahead with confidence and leaving behind its colonial mindset.<\/p>\n
Addressing a gathering, PM Modi said that Macaulay\u2019s policy, which \u201csowed the seeds of mental slavery\u201d, will complete 200 years in 2035. \u201cThere are ten years left. In these ten years, we must come together to free our country from the mentality of slavery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
PM Modi argued that linking India\u2019s development to the faith and identity of its people was a hallmark of the colonial era. He said attempts were made to suggest that Hindu culture slowed India\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s intellectuals, who look for communalism in everything, never saw any issue with the use of the term \u2018Hindu growth\u2019,\u201d he said, adding that the phrase was widely used in books and research papers.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the current economic trajectory, PM Modi said India is emerging as a model of high growth and low inflation. He pointed to the 8.2% GDP growth in the second quarter of the fiscal year, saying it reflects India\u2019s rising role as a global growth engine.<\/p>\n
He added that amid global uncertainties, the world is viewing India in a \u201cdifferent league\u201d. According to him, the transformation underway is not merely about possibilities but reflects a deeper shift in national thinking and direction.<\/p>\n
