Chandigarh: Suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar has approached a CBI court seeking directions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to de-freeze 10 bank accounts linked to his father and daughter.<\/p>\n
Acting on the plea, the court issued notice to the CBI and directed it to file its reply by February 6.<\/p>\n
In his application, Bhullar alleged that the CBI had frozen the accounts during the investigation of a \u201ctrap case\u201d without obtaining prior permission from the court. He termed the action illegal and arbitrary.<\/p>\n
Counsel for the accused, SPS Bhullar, argued that the CBI had filed a chargesheet on December 3, 2025, against Bhullar and co-accused Krishnu Sharda, but the bank accounts in question were not part of the chargesheet. He further contended that the accounts were not required for any procedure related to the trap case.<\/p>\n
The defence also pointed out that there was no legal basis on record to show under which statutory provision the accounts were frozen. It was submitted that the accounts belong to Bhullar\u2019s father and daughter, who have no connection with the alleged offence.<\/p>\n
The lawyer told the court that Bhullar\u2019s father, a retired Army veteran and former Punjab DGP, is around 80 years old and no longer in public service. He manages the accounts using income from his pension and agriculture, independent of the case under investigation.<\/p>\n
