Ludhiana: The deputy commissioner (DC) Himanshu Jain said a committee has been constituted to organise bullock cart races strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board, the Punjab government and court orders. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the prescribed rules.<\/p>\n
The DC made it clear that bullock owners must complete prior registration to participate in the races. No bullock cart will be allowed to compete without registration. He added that the registration process will be free of cost and that the entire expenditure for the games will be borne by the Punjab government.<\/p>\n
Games schedule from January 30 to February 1<\/p>\n
Bullock cart races will be held on all three days \u2014 January 30, 31 and February 1. Punjabi singers will perform akharas during evening programmes.<\/p>\n
January 30:<\/p>\n
Events scheduled include hockey matches (boys open and girls open), 1,500-metre finals (boys and girls), 400-metre heats and finals (boys and girls), 60-metre races (primary school boys and girls), and bullock cart races from 12.15 pm onwards.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony will feature cultural performances such as gidda, bhangra and traditional displays by Nihang Singhs.<\/p>\n
January 31:<\/p>\n
The day will feature hockey semi-finals (boys and girls), kabaddi circle style (boys and girls), kabaddi national style under-17 (girls), shot put, long jump, 100-metre race, tug of war, and bullock cart races in the afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n
February 1:<\/p>\n
Events will include kabaddi national style under-17 (girls), 200-metre and 800-metre races, high jump, shot put finals, cycle race, races for 65+, 75+ and 80+ age groups, trolley loading and unloading competition, tricycle race, and bullock cart races.<\/p>\n
