Amritsar: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has intensified its probe into the sensitive case of 328 missing pawan saroops in Amritsar, issuing summons to 40 serving and retired officials of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to appear at the police commissioner\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Reacting sharply to the development, the head granthi and jathedar of Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib, Giani Raghubir Singh, expressed strong resentment over what he described as the mental harassment of employees in the name of investigation.<\/p>\n
Giani Raghubir Singh said he had learned through social media and other sources that the SIT had again called 40 individuals to record statements. He pointed out that their statements had already been recorded earlier during the inquiry conducted on the basis of Dr Ishar Singh\u2019s report.<\/p>\n
Emphasising the need for truth to come out, the jathedar said any physical or mental harassment of employees under the guise of investigation would not be tolerated. He also clarified that the SGPC was extending full cooperation to the probe and added that the SIT chief himself had acknowledged the committee\u2019s complete support.<\/p>\n
In this situation, he said, it was incumbent upon the administration and the government to ensure the investigation proceeds smoothly without putting unnecessary mental pressure on officials.<\/p>\n
The matter is extremely sensitive for the Sikh community as it concerns the sanctity, record-keeping and maryada of the pawan saroops. Expressing hope for an impartial investigation, Giani Raghubir Singh said he trusted that the truth would eventually emerge.
