New Delhi: The Union government has expressed concern over the deaths of Indian students abroad, particularly in Canada, revealing that 17 Indian students lost their lives in the country between 2018 and 2025 due to violent incidents.<\/p>\n
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh shared the data in a written reply to a question in Parliament. The query was raised by AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who sought details on whether the government was aware of rising incidents of violence against Indian students overseas and the steps being taken to investigate such cases.<\/p>\n
According to the information provided, Canada accounted for the highest number of deaths among Indian students during the period under review. Besides Canada, nine Indian nationals were killed in the United States, three in Australia, and two in Kyrgyzstan. One Indian citizen each lost their lives in the United Kingdom, China, Denmark, Germany and Grenada.<\/p>\n
The minister said Indian missions abroad remain in regular contact with Indian students and extend all possible assistance in cases of distress. He added that students are advised about safety precautions through orientation programmes conducted before departure and after arrival in foreign countries.<\/p>\n
Indian embassies and consulates also work closely with local authorities to address safety concerns and keep students informed about potential risks and challenges in host countries, the government said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
