Lahore: A Sikh woman who travelled to Pakistan and converted to Islam before marrying a Pakistani national has said that her decision was voluntary and not taken under any pressure.<\/p>\n
Sarbjeet Kaur, now known as Noor Fatima, shared her version of events in a recent interview, addressing questions about her family, travel to Pakistan, conversion, marriage and a viral audio clip linked to the controversy.<\/p>\n
Contact began on Facebook in 2016<\/p>\n
Sarbjeet said her interaction with Nasir Hussain began in 2016 through Facebook. \u201cIt started as a friendship and later turned into love. We got married by the end of 2025,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She added that she travelled to Pakistan for the first time on November 4 via the Wagah Border to visit Nankana Sahib on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Prakash Parv.<\/p>\n
According to her, she was issued a 13-day visa and reached Pakistan on November 4. She said she established contact after turning on her mobile phone\u2019s internet upon arrival.<\/p>\n
Husband living in UK for 22 years<\/p>\n
Responding to questions about her family, Sarbjeet said her husband, Karnail Singh, has been living in the UK for the past 22 years. She said she has two sons and had kept her mobile phone hidden from her children.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy decision to accept Islam was my own. I was not under any pressure,\u201d she said, dismissing claims that she had been coerced.<\/p>\n
Lawyer clarifies visa and legal process<\/p>\n
Her lawyer rejected reports that she was being deported or had fled from Sheikhupura. He said the issue arose due to non-extension of her visa, which required verification by Pakistani authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe filed a petition to prevent deportation. After completing the required legal documentation, she was released from the shelter home,\u201d the lawyer said.<\/p>\n
He added that she appeared in court on November 5 and later submitted documents in the high court.<\/p>\n
Viral audio and assault claims denied<\/p>\n
Sarbjeet also denied allegations linked to a viral audio clip and claims that she was assaulted by a relative of her husband.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no truth in those claims. I did everything of my own free will,\u201d she said, adding that she was unaware of how the audio clip surfaced.<\/p>\n
