<\/p>\nNew Delhi: Galgotias University has issued a public apology after facing backlash over the display of a Chinese-made robotic dog at the recently held India AI Impact Summit 2026.<\/p>\n
In a press release, the university said the confusion was caused by an \u201cill-informed\u201d representative at its pavilion who provided factually incorrect information while speaking on camera.<\/p>\n
The controversy erupted after a robotic dog labelled \u201cOrion\u201d was showcased at the summit and initially presented as a product developed by the university\u2019s Centre of Excellence. However, social media users pointed out that the robot resembled the \u2018Unitree Go2\u2019, manufactured by Chinese firm Unitree Robotics.<\/p>\n

In its statement, the university clarified that the staff member was unaware of the technical origins of the product and was not authorised to speak to the press. \u201cIn her enthusiasm of being on camera, she gave factually incorrect information,\u201d the release stated.<\/p>\n
Galgotias University said there was no institutional intent to misrepresent the innovation and reiterated its commitment to academic integrity, transparency and responsible representation of its work. The university added that it has vacated the premises in line with the organisers\u2019 sentiment following the controversy.<\/p>\n
