Under the new norms, from March 1, users must have the same SIM card in their mobile phone as the number linked to messaging apps such as WhatsApp and others.<\/p>\n<p>If a phone does not have the active SIM linked to the registered number, messaging platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Snapchat, ShareChat and JioChat will stop functioning.<\/p>\n<p>This means users will no longer be able to operate these apps on a device using only Wi-Fi without inserting the linked SIM card.<\/p>\n<p>What changes for computer users<\/p>\n<p>The new rule will also impact users accessing messaging services on desktops or laptops. WhatsApp accounts logged in on computers will automatically log out every six hours. Users will then have to scan the QR code again to log in.<\/p>\n<p>Why the rule is being implemented<\/p>\n<p>The government believes the move will help curb cybercrime and track fraudsters more effectively.
