Gurdaspur: The alleged encounter killing of Ranjit Singh has taken a fresh turn after a court directed authorities to preserve call detail records (CDRs) and GPS location data of police officials linked to the case.<\/p>\n
The order came on a complaint filed by Sukjinder Kaur, mother of the deceased, seeking an independent probe into the circumstances surrounding the encounter.<\/p>\n
Call records, CCTV footage to be secured<\/p>\n
Acting on an application moved by a legal team, the court directed that call details of the SSP Gurdaspur, SHO Dorangla, SHO Purana Shala, CIA in-charge Gurmeet Singh and other police personnel involved in the encounter be preserved.<\/p>\n
The court instructed the investigating officer and the concerned telecom service provider to secure call records from February 20 to February 28, 2026. GPS location data of the officials during the same period has also been ordered to be preserved.<\/p>\n
The court further directed that any CCTV footage available near the alleged encounter site be secured and made part of the investigation. Call records of the deceased Ranjit Singh are also to be preserved.<\/p>\n
Medical board to examine CIA in-charge<\/p>\n
The court also ordered a detailed medical examination of CIA in-charge Gurmeet Singh, who was reportedly shown injured during the encounter.<\/p>\n
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Gurdaspur, has been directed to constitute a three-member board of doctors to examine the injury and submit a detailed report to the area magistrate. The board has been asked to clarify whether the bullet injury on his arm was self-inflicted or caused by firing from another source.<\/p>\n
