Jalandhar: Police have registered an FIR against a teacher in connection with the alleged suicide of a Class XII student at a senior secondary school in Noorpur area of Jalandhar.<\/p>\n
The action comes after protests by the victim\u2019s family and local residents on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as 19-year-old Khushpreet, had reportedly gone to the school on Monday to collect her roll number when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n
Family alleges murder, custodial assault<\/p>\n
Khushpreet\u2019s maternal aunt alleged that the girl was murdered and did not die by suicide. She claimed a teacher forced the student to hold her purse and first accused her of stealing \u20b9200, later alleging \u20b92,000 was missing.<\/p>\n
According to the family, the teacher pressured Khushpreet to admit to theft and allegedly beat her when she refused. They claimed she was locked inside a room for nearly three hours and later found dead.<\/p>\n
The family has questioned how the room latch was open if it was a case of hanging and alleged that there was no rope inside the room nor any photograph showing the girl hanging. They also questioned why the body was taken down before the family arrived.<\/p>\n
Police register case, probe underway<\/p>\n
Maqsudan police station official Angrez Singh said an FIR has been registered based on the family\u2019s statement. The accused teacher has been identified as Paramjit Kaur. Police said preliminary information suggests there was a dispute over money, after which the student spoke to her family on the phone before allegedly ending her life.<\/p>\n
DSP Kartarpur has ordered a fair and impartial probe. Statements of school staff, students and family members are being recorded, and all evidence is being examined.<\/p>\n
Police have said that if any negligence or mental harassment is found during the investigation, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.<\/p>\n
Father alleges pressure over theft charge<\/p>\n
Khushpreet\u2019s father, Jarnail Singh, alleged that his daughter did not die by suicide but was killed. He claimed he received a call from a number linked to a teacher named Shivani, during which his daughter said she was being accused of theft.<\/p>\n
He said he received another call later stating that another student had been identified as responsible. Around 15 minutes later, a third call allegedly informed him that the real culprit had been caught. When he reached the school with local residents, he found his daughter dead.<\/p>\n
