{"id":63414,"date":"2026-04-09T19:50:29","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T14:20:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/?p=63414"},"modified":"2026-04-09T19:50:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T14:20:29","slug":"supplying-canal-water-up-to-the-tail-ends-for-irrigation-to-save-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/punjab\/supplying-canal-water-up-to-the-tail-ends-for-irrigation-to-save-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Supplying canal water up to the tail ends for irrigation to save water and Punjab is the objective of the Bhagwant Mann Government: Barinder Goyal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Says, the Chief Minister\u2019s message of \u201csaving every drop of water and using it for irrigation\u201d has been conveyed to farmers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Patran News (April 9):<\/span> Punjab\u2019s Minister for Mining, Geology, Land &amp; Water Conservation and Water Resources, Barinder Goyal, today gave a major boost to farmers of the Shutrana constituency by inaugurating irrigation projects worth \u20b91.45 crore along with MLA Kulwant Singh Bazigar.<\/p>\n<p>The Water Resources Minister inaugurated a project in village Kallar Bhaini, constructed at a cost of \u20b911.87 lakh, which will use solar pumps to lift water from ponds and supply it to fields through pipelines for irrigation. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone of another irrigation project in village Sadharanpur, costing \u20b91.33 crore, aimed at the efficient utilization of canal water through a newly proposed pipeline system from canal outlet (Moga No. 10500, left side) to common agricultural lands.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that these projects will increase crop productivity and help conserve 20 to 30 percent of groundwater. He added that such water-saving projects will be implemented in every village.<\/p>\n<p>Barinder Goyal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to providing better and sustainable irrigation facilities to farmers and reducing dependence on groundwater.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing the Chief Minister\u2019s message\u2014\u201cevery drop of water will be saved and used for irrigation\u201d\u2014the Cabinet Minister said that water from village ponds, which earlier went to waste, will now be utilized effectively. He emphasized that ensuring canal water reaches the tail ends, instead of being wasted in other states, is key to saving both water and Punjab, and the government is succeeding in this mission.<\/p>\n<p>He further informed that the Punjab Government has spent \u20b96,700 crore to strengthen the canal system and promote the use of canal water for irrigation. In areas where groundwater is unfit for drinking, canal water will be supplied for potable use. He also stated that all arrangements to prevent flooding in rivers, including the Ghaggar, will be completed by June 30.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing farmers in villages Kallar Bhaini and Sadharanpur, Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal stressed the importance of groundwater conservation and assured that there will be no shortage of funds for such water-saving projects. He urged farmers to use water judiciously, as every drop is precious.<\/p>\n<p>On this occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh thanked the Cabinet Minister and said that the farmers of Shutrana constituency have received true support only from the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, whereas previous governments had neglected the area.<\/p>\n<p>He further informed that under the irrigation project in village Kallar Bhaini, about 35.37 hectares (100 acres) of land has been covered, benefiting 24 farming families. Similarly, in village Sadharanpur, around 204 hectares (600 acres) will be irrigated through a 9-kilometre pipeline, benefiting 41 farming families.
