Governor Gulab Chand Kataria calls upon youth to use education to wipe tears of the underprivileged and contribute to nation-building<\/span><\/p>\n

Patiala News (April 9):\u00a0<\/span> Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today attended the valedictory ceremony of sesquicentennial Anniversary (150th Foundation Day \u2018Safar-e-Fakhr\u2019 celebrations) of Government Mohindra College, Patiala, and lauded the institution\u2019s glorious legacy and its historic contribution to the field of education.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

During the event, the Governor called upon young students to use their education to wipe the tears of those at the lowest strata of society and contribute towards nation-building. He also urged students to stay connected with their historic alma mater and guide the younger generation with their wisdom and experience.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he inaugurated a commemorative herbal garden, a heritage room, and a vintage photo gallery to commemorate the 150th Foundation Day, describing these initiatives as commendable. He said such efforts would play a vital role in preserving the rich legacy of the college and connecting it with future generations. He also termed the commemorative magazine as an important document of intellectual and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

In his address, the Governor said that Government Mohindra College is not merely an academic institution but a beacon of knowledge, character and tradition, which has educated generations for over a century and a half and contributed significantly to the social, cultural and intellectual development of the nation.<\/p>\n

He noted that the institution, established in 1875, has witnessed several milestones\u2014from the freedom struggle to the modern technological era\u2014and has maintained its excellence and commitment to education despite changing times.<\/p>\n

Recalling the history of the college, he said it was founded by Maharaja Mahinder Singh of Patiala, its foundation stone was laid by the then Viceroy Lord Northbrook, and it was later inaugurated by Lord Ripon. He added that the institution has always stood for quality education and inclusivity, with the tradition of providing free education to girl students up to the undergraduate level continuing to this day.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the institution\u2019s achievements, the Governor said the college has been honoured with a commemorative postage stamp by the Government of India, and recognitions such as NAAC \u2018A\u2019 Grade, UGC\u2019s \u201cCollege with Potential for Excellence,\u201d and \u201cStar College\u201d reaffirm its academic excellence. He urged the college management to explore new opportunities in innovation, research, artificial intelligence, and skill development.<\/p>\n

Emphasizing the role of teachers, he said education is not limited to imparting information but is a process of character and life-building. He urged teachers to prepare students not only for examinations but also to face life\u2019s challenges.<\/p>\n

Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, he said education today must be multidisciplinary, inclusive, and skill-based, fostering leadership and innovation among students.<\/p>\n

Addressing the students, he encouraged them to dream big, learn from failures, and fulfill their social responsibilities. He said students play a crucial role in shaping the future of the nation and should use their education for the welfare of the last person in society.<\/p>\n

Interacting with alumni, he appealed to them to stay connected with the institution and guide the younger generation with their experiences. The Governor Gulab Chand Kataria expressed confidence in the continued progress and bright future of Government Mohindra College and congratulated all stakeholders on this historic milestone.<\/p>\n

College Principal Dr Nishtha Tripathi welcomed the Governor Kataria and highlighted the achievements of the institution. A memento was also presented to Governor. On the occasion, 21 former teachers, 4 Class IV and 6 Class III employees, along with 20 meritorious students, were honoured. Vice Principal Lovleen Parmar delivered the vote of thanks.<\/p>\n

Among others present were the Governor\u2019s Principal Secretary V.P. Singh, Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Jagdeep Singh, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ratan Singh, ADC Simarpreet Kaur, SDM Naman Markan, along with former principals, faculty members, and students of the college.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
