{"id":63536,"date":"2026-04-12T16:57:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T11:27:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/?p=63536"},"modified":"2026-04-12T16:57:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T11:27:35","slug":"despite-challenges-bhagwant-mann-government-committed-to-procure-every-single-grain-of-wheat-from-mandis-dr-balbir-singh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/punjab\/despite-challenges-bhagwant-mann-government-committed-to-procure-every-single-grain-of-wheat-from-mandis-dr-balbir-singh\/","title":{"rendered":"Despite challenges, Bhagwant Mann Government committed to procure every single grain of wheat from mandis: Dr Balbir Singh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Health Minister visits various mandis to review wheat procurement arrangements<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Patiala News (April 12):<\/span> Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Sunday visited various grain markets (anaaj mandis) across the district to review the ongoing wheat procurement arrangements for the Rabi Marketing Season.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Minister inspected anaaj mandis at Sirhind Road, village Lang, Bakshiwal, Lout and Mandour, where he interacted with farmers, arthiyas and labourers to assess the ground situation.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Balbir Singh said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is fully committed to procuring every single grain of wheat brought by farmers to the mandis.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the Central Government should have provided immediate relief for the wheat crop in Punjab damaged due to adverse weather conditions, on the lines of Rajasthan. He added that, following the persistent demand of the Punjab Government, a Central team has now visiting the state to assess the crop damage, expressing hope that Punjab will receive its due compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Minister further said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had recently met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, and strongly raised several key issues concerning Punjab. These included higher CCL interest rates, pending dues of approximately \u20b99,000 crore under the RDF, compensation for crops damaged due to hailstorms, and long-pending demands of arthiyas.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the Chief Minister also expressed concern over the discriminatory approach of the Centre in granting relaxation in procurement norms. He pointed out that while states like Rajasthan were allowed relaxations for shrivelled grains, similar relief was not initially extended to Punjab despite significant crop damage caused by unseasonal rains and strong winds.<\/p>\n<p>Criticising the step-motherly treatment by the Central Government, Dr Balbir Singh reiterated that despite these challenges, the Bhagwant Mann Government remains firmly committed to ensuring smooth procurement and lifting of wheat, and to purchasing every single grain brought by farmers to the mandis.<\/p>\n<p>President, Patiala Arhtiya Association, Satwinder Singh Saini, Suresh Rai, AFSO Manish Kumar and other officials were also present during the visits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Health Minister visits various mandis to review wheat procurement arrangements Patiala News (April 12): Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Sunday visited various grain markets (anaaj mandis) across the district to review the ongoing wheat procurement arrangements for the Rabi Marketing Season.
