Chandigarh: Punjab cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora, who is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, on Tuesday approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking immediate release and calling his detention \u201cunconstitutional\u201d.<\/p>\n
Arora was arrested on May 9 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).<\/p>\n
Petition alleges violation of fundamental rights<\/p>\n
In his petition, Arora claimed that his arrest was arbitrary and violated his fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 21 and 22 of the Constitution.<\/p>\n
He has also sought quashing of the remand order issued by a special court in Gurugram, which had sent him to ED custody till May 16.<\/p>\n
The matter has been listed before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjeev Berry.<\/p>\n
Senior advocate Puneet Bali is representing Arora before the court.<\/p>\n
Arora says he resigned from company after assuming public office<\/p>\n
The petition stated that Arora had been one of the promoters of Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL), which had transparently started a mobile phone export business during the 2023-24 financial year.<\/p>\n
Arora argued that after assuming public office, he resigned as chairman and managing director of the company and had no role in its day-to-day operations thereafter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
