Shimla: A tense situation emerged in Banjar in Himachal Pradesh\u2019s Kullu district after tourists from Ludhiana allegedly brandished swords and attacked local residents during a dispute.<\/p>\n
According to police, the incident took place on the evening of May 10 after the tourists\u2019 vehicle allegedly hit a local resident, triggering an argument between both sides. The clash soon turned violent when two of the tourists reportedly pulled out swords from the vehicle and attacked locals.<\/p>\n
Two people were injured in the attack. One victim suffered serious injuries to his hand, while another sustained a deep cut on his cheek from a sword attack. Videos related to the incident later surfaced on social media, further escalating tensions in the area.<\/p>\n
Four accused detained, locals accuse police of leniency<\/p>\n
Police identified the accused as Mandeep Singh, Pradeep Singh, Jashanpreet and Pritpal, all residents of the Khanna area in Punjab. The four had reportedly come to Himachal Pradesh for a trip.<\/p>\n
Local residents gathered in large numbers outside Sainj Police Station demanding strict action against the accused. Protesters accused police of treating the accused leniently and alleged that the tourists attempted to offer \u20b95 lakh to secure their release.<\/p>\n
Locals also alleged that the accused were under the influence of drugs and claimed police failed to conduct proper medical examinations. However, police denied the allegations and said all legal procedures were followed.<\/p>\n
Police say case registered, swords recovered<\/p>\n
Investigating officer Kishori Lal said police immediately detained all four accused after the incident. A case has been registered under Sections 281, 125(A), 115(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).<\/p>\n
Police added that the injured persons were medically examined and the swords used in the incident were recovered. The accused were later released on bail bonds as the offences were bailable in nature.<\/p>\n
