New Delhi: Air India on Wednesday announced a temporary suspension and reduction of several international flight operations due to ongoing airspace restrictions and record-high jet fuel prices.<\/p>\n
The loss-making airline said the latest \u201crationalisation\u201d of services will remain in effect during the June-August period.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the airline said a combination of factors \u2014 including continued airspace restrictions in certain regions and sharply rising aviation fuel costs \u2014 had significantly impacted the commercial viability of some scheduled international operations.<\/p>\n
As part of the revised schedule, Air India will temporarily suspend services on the following routes until August:<\/p>\n
Delhi\u2013Chicago<\/p>\n
Mumbai\u2013New York<\/p>\n
Delhi\u2013Shanghai<\/p>\n
Chennai\u2013Singapore<\/p>\n
Mumbai\u2013Dhaka<\/p>\n
Delhi\u2013Male<\/p>\n
The airline had already reduced frequencies on certain routes earlier as part of cost-management measures.<\/p>\n
Despite the temporary suspensions, Air India said it will continue operating more than 1,200 international flights every month.<\/p>\n
According to the airline, this includes:<\/p>\n
33 weekly flights to North America<\/p>\n
47 weekly flights to Europe<\/p>\n
57 weekly flights to the United Kingdom<\/p>\n
8 weekly flights to Australia<\/p>\n
158 weekly flights to Far East, Southeast Asia and SAARC destinations<\/p>\n
7 weekly flights to Mauritius and Africa routes<\/p>\n
